The renovation and operation of the Powerhouse Fitness Facility (formerly Gym 4) was an Office of Secretary of Defense (OSD) project for one (1) year to determine if a civilian contractor could operate a military fitness center more efficiently and economically than the government. The contract year was from 22 June 2007, the ribbon cutting ceremony, to 21 June 2008. It has been determined that it is not cost effective for a civilian contractor to operate a fitness center on behalf of the Army. The Powerhouse Fitness Facility will close effective COB 21 June 2008. The Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (DFMWR) will assume the management and operations of the facility and will reopen on/about 1 September 2008. Gym 4 will be equipped with all new fitness and exercise equipment with an anticipated delivery period of late July – mid August 2008. ALL authorized users (Service Members, Family Members, Retirees, DOD Civilians, Fort Gordon Contractors, etc.) will be able to utilize Gym 4 at “no charge” for basic fitness use in keeping with the Installation Management Command's (IMCOM) Common Level of Service (CLS). There will be a charge for services and amenities not included in the CLS such as aerobic instructors/classes, personal trainers, massage therapists, etc.
