Each year the Army MWR holds a Digital Photography Contest. The contest is designed to capture favorite moments and adventures from across the globe. This contest celebrates photographic skills from two divisions (Active Duty and Other Eligible Patrons). The Digital Photography Contest encourages everyone from the sophisticated photographer to the novice enthusiast. Participants enter their work in one of eight categories, including: Animals, Design Elements, Digital Darkroom, Military Life, Monochrome, Nature/Landscapes, People and Still Life. Monetary prizes are awarded for the first, second and third place winners in each category and recognition is also given to Honorable Mention. Entries for the 2015 Digital Photography Contest were submitted from November 1 – December 31, 2015, and winners were notified in February 2016. Ralph Gaines, a member of the Fort Gordon Logistics Readiness Center (LRC), had three winning entries in the contest. Gaines’ winning entries included a 1st place in Military Life, an Honorable Mention in Nature/Landscape, and an Honorable Mention in Design Elements. Gaines, who has been taking photos since he was a young soldier in the U.S. Army, said he “Always wanted to win a photography contest at the All Army Level and feels grateful to finally get a win.” Gaines’ prize/award included a monetary award and Certificate of Achievement for each winning entry.
