Preparing for Educational Advocacy- Parents or guardians can come to this class to learn about their rights under state and federal laws. Knowing legal rights assists parents and guardians with becoming a powerful advocate. This class will touch on the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and how Part B of the IDEA established educational requirements for children with disabilities from age 3 to 21. Parents or guardians are taught how Section 504 protects the civil rights of a person with a Disability; by requiring reasonable accommodations. Students must receive opportunities that are comparable to those provided to children without disabilities. Guest speakers are present from Richmond and Columbia County.
