I recently went to the Juicy Crab, located on Washington Road, in the shopping center where you can find 2nd & Charles, Master’s Cinemas and the Country Club. Located next to the Country Club, this was the fourth or fifth time that I’ve been to the Juicy Crab.
When you walk into the restaurant, the first thing you’ll notice is all of the signatures on the walls. It’s somewhat similar to another locally owned seafood restaurant, but that’s where the similarities stop.
I already knew what we were going to order when we got there. Our friendly waitress took our order of the Low Country Boil, which we always get. It is their special and you will see it mentioned on their special board as you walk in or on their Facebook page.
At the time of this article, for $22.50, the Boil comes with half a pound of snow crab legs, half a pound of shrimp, half a pound of sausage, potatoes, corn and three hard boiled eggs. I had never had a Low Country Boil with hard boiled eggs till I ate at the Juicy Crab. It’s different but yummy. You can add the following seasonings to your meals, Cajun, lemon pepper, garlic butter or the Juicy Special, which is a combination of all three. Then you can pick your spice level or mild, medium, hot or extra hot. Our dinner that night was with the mild Juicy Special seasoning. The meal is big enough for two people in my opinion. You can add more corn, potatoes, sausage to it but I also found out you can add more crab, so that’s what we did. We added another half-pound of snow crab to the Boil.
Our meal came out quickly, but don’t be alarmed when it comes out in a plastic bag filled with your Boil and of course the juice. It is served with a metal tray, paper plates, plastic utensils, a little bucket for your trash, nutcrackers for your crab, bibs and wet wipes. Now, here’s a bit of advice, use the bib and cover your pants with a napkin. If you get something on you, it is very hard to get off.
We will continue to go back to the Juicy Crab as the food is delicious and the wait staff has always been very friendly. They do offer more than the Low Country Boil, such as appetizers, fried baskets or combos with two items which also comes with corn and potatoes. They have a variety of crab and muscles, shrimp, clamps, crawfish and for the non-seafood eaters, chicken fingers. If you are still hungry after you meal, you can get some dessert. The table next to us had the molten lava cake, which looked and smelled delightful.
