Military Spouse Appreciation 2018

The Cyber Center of Excellence and Fort Gordon is hosting a week-long celebration to honor military spouses. All military spouses are invited to be part of the festivities that will conclude with a Spouse Expo on Friday, 11 May 2018 at the Reserve Center, corner of 15th Street and Lane Avenue.

President Ronald Reagan proclaimed the Friday before Mother’s Day of each year to be Military Spouse Appreciation Day. The observance which began in 1984 recognizes the countless personal sacrifices military spouses have made in support of the Armed Forces from the days of the Continental Army to present day.

The week-long celebration will begin with a Spirit Walk on Monday, 7 May 2018, at 9:00 a.m. at the amphitheater on Barton Field. This year’s theme for Military Spouses Appreciation Day “Military Spouses: In the Spirit of Building Readiness.” Strollers are welcome. Participation is not predicated on walking the entire 3.2 mile course.

Each day of the week features something different for spouses from bowling to horseback riding to metabolic and body composition readings at the Army Wellness Center on Barnes Avenue to firearm and archery lessons. Bingo, scuba, and golfing are also included in the week’s events. An evening event is offered will also be offered to spouses on Wednesday, 9 May 2018 at the Family Outreach Center located behind Woodworth Library. Registration is required for all events except the main event on Friday, 11 May 2018. To register for any event, spouses must log on to or use their mobile app to search for ‘Military Spouse Appreciation Week’ using Fort Gordon, GA as their location.

Military spouses are encouraged to join us on Friday, 11 May 2018, 10:00 a.m., Reserve Center, as we wrap up activities with a Spouse Expo which will feature a manicures, facials, massages, special recognitions, and more. Strollers are welcome at the expo – come hungry, lunch is on us.
All activities are FREE and childcare is available for most of the activities. Be advised childcare slots are limited, early registration for childcare is encouraged. Youth must use and be registered with Child and Youth Services (CYS). Reservations for care and registration are the responsibility of the parent.     1. No ma’am the event on Friday you do not need to register for. However, there are events throughout the week which do require registration, which you can see on the flyer attached to this event.

    1. Yes children are welcome. However, there will not be children’s activities at the event.
